My older son is obsessed with construction vehicles. There is some dredging up of land down the road due to a new park being built and my son could not be happier when we take our daily walk past all the power shovels. Imagine my (and his) glee when I was able to pattern test this adorable quilt. He actually doesn’t know what a pattern test is but his growing interest as the motif became clearer was gratifying for me 🙂
This is another pattern by Rachel Rossi available in hard copy or pdf format. It’s perfect for beginners and has a nice mix of piecing, appliqué, and even some embroidery. Some of the testers even personalised theirs. It came together very quickly and the directions are clear and easy to follow.
I really like the colours I chose. The mottled blue I used for my sky came from the “Hawaiian” section at my local shop. I wanted my sky to look like sky and I also wanted to have the quilting look “windy”. I am not great at free-motion quilting! If you look closely (please don’t), you’ll see a lot of mistakes and wobbles, but from a distance I like the effect. The pictures I took are also some of my favourites of my little guys. As you can see, it makes a great little play mat as well!
